- In the spring, after danger of frost, when the air temperature is above 50 degrees.
- When the soil is warm (63 degrees or higher).
- In the south, plant before July 4th.
- Before planting it is optimal to soil test. If soil pH is good (between 6-7) add some some phosphorus and potash.
Plant in the best place
- In FULL SUN.
- Plant seeds 3/4 - 1 inch deep and 3-6 inches apart.
- Plant 1/4 inch below the soil moisture line, no deeper than 1 inch.
- Make sure the soil is moist to support sprouting.
- Tip: Plant a few each week during the spring and early summer months to extend your growing season.

- If it doesn’t rain following planting, water about 1 inch weekly. You will need around 25 inches per season.
- Plants emerge in about 4-14 days, depending on water and soil temperature.
- For a bushier plant, thin the row to about 12-18 inches apart.
- Weed as needed.
- Stink bugs and pod feeders are common pests in the south. Scout weekly after late bloom.
- You can manually remove the insects if you have a small garden.
- You can also safely use diatomaceous earth to reduce pest pressure.
Pods ready for picking!
Harvest your edamame
- Depending on your planting zone, Escomame are ready to harvest in about 75-95 days.
- Pick when pods are filled out and 2-3 inches long.
- 2021 Escomame average yield was 78 pods per plant, with a range up to 139 pods per plant.
Enjoy!
